Our advocates in Massachusetts are continuing to raise their voices in support of Senate Bill S.1573 and House Bill H.4367, as the legislation advances through the legislative process. ACI Alliance is proud to help amplify this effort by sharing their call to action. We thank our state leaders and advocates for their continued commitment to improving newborn and child hearing health. Together, we can ensure that babies affected by cCMV are identified early and given the best possible start.

We need your help advocating for state bills S.1573 and H.4367! Filed by Senator Joan Lovely and Representative Sally Kerans, these bills would require prenatal education and newborn screening for congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV)

cCMV is the most common infectious cause of birth defects and the leading non-genetic cause of childhood hearing loss. In Massachusetts, about 400 babies are born with cCMV each year, but most are never tested because they appear healthy at birth. Despite its prevalence, less than 10% of women have ever heard about the virus or how to lower their risk of infection during pregnancy.

These bills are now before the Joint Committee on Ways & Means, the final step before a vote.

Take action today: Contact your legislators and ask them to support S.1573 and H.4367. All you need to do is enter your name and address here; the website Voter Voice will do the rest of the work for you!
